In 1995, the BBC’s Tomorrow’s World programme decided to predict what the world would look like 30 years later, i.e. in 2025.
The show, which is no longer on air, was presented by one of the most famous scientists of the era, Professor Stephen Hawking, who predicted: “By 2025 we can expect big changes.”
The show team agreed, and suggested world-shaking inventions ranging from hologram surgery to space junk prison.

‘cyberspace riots’ of 2005
In 1995, the World Wide Web was really just emerging – a development that Tomorrow’s World thought would bring trouble in the future.
He predicted that “business tycoons” and banks would take control of the Internet by the year 2000, and establish a “supernet” to which they would restrict access.
As a result, hacking, viruses and even riots may occur.
